This Policy explains what personal information Wavelength (“we,” “us”) collects, why, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do about it.
1. What we collect

2. Why we use it
To run convenings and working groups; to communicate with you about events and Wavelength’s work; to administer membership and the member area; to maintain a referral directory for members who opt in; to comply with law and to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims; and to keep our records.
3. Research on participants — we tell you because it is unusual
Wavelength has compiled, and may in future compile, background files on convening participants drawing on publicly available sources such as bar records, professional directories, organizational websites, and published interviews. We do this to understand who is in the room and how to make convenings useful — not to evaluate, score, or share information about you.
These files are held on a restricted basis, are not sold, are not shared outside Wavelength’s leadership, and are deleted when they are no longer needed. You may ask what we hold about you and ask us to correct or delete it, at deja@onthewavelength.org.
4. How we share it
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing.
- Service providers — email, hosting, forms, membership, and event tools that process information on our behalf under contract.
- Venues — an attendee count, and where a venue requires it, a name list.
- Members — only what you opt in to publish in a member or referral directory.
- Legal — where required by law, subpoena, or court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Wavelength or others.
Sponsors do not get your data. We do not sell, rent, or lease our attendee, member, or mailing list, and we do not give sponsors your contact information. Sponsorship does not buy access to you.
5. How long we keep it
Contact and membership information for as long as you are on the list or a member, and then for up to two years. Executed waivers and releases for the applicable limitations period. Financial and tax records for the period required by law. Photographs and recordings you consented to, indefinitely, unless you ask us to remove material in which you are identifiable.
6. Your choices
You can unsubscribe from any Wavelength email using the link in it or by writing to us, and we will process the request promptly. You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask to be excluded from photographs and recordings, and ask to be removed from any directory.
7. California privacy law
The California Consumer Privacy Act generally does not apply to nonprofit organizations. Its definition of a covered “business” turns on whether the entity is organized or operated for the profit or financial benefit of its shareholders or other owners, and Wavelength is not. We nonetheless honor access, correction, and deletion requests as described in Section 6.
California’s data breach notification law does apply to us. If a breach of the security of computerized personal information occurs, we will notify affected California residents as required by Civil Code section 1798.82, and where a single breach affects more than 500 California residents we will submit a sample notice to the California Attorney General.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including access controls on participant records. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please do not send us confidential or sensitive information by email.
9. Children
Wavelength events are for adults 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have, write to us and we will delete it.
10. Changes and contact
We may update this Policy by posting a revised version with a new effective date.
